Away with the Fairies, Sunday 22nd July

8 of use set off from the Hest Bank Foreshore carpark on a humid but magical day. We stuck to the coastline to Carnforth where we gained another walker. The route took us through Warton, Hyning Scout Wood to the ethereal Deepdale Wood/pond and on to Yealand Storrs. We snuck through the toilet block at the Fell End Holiday Park to find the secret foot path (which we found eventually hiding behind a static caravan) up to the Marble Quarry limestone pavement, slippery when wet which thankfully it wasn’t.

After Slackhead, we had a mystical lunch with a view at the top of the Fairy Steps, which proved to be a mistake for one member who then got stuck trying to descend down the narrow gap.
We returned via Hawes Water, Silverdale golf club, RSPB Leighton Moss, Warton Crag and back along the Lancaster canal. I felt slightly guilty that I delivered the group back after 24.9 rather than the quoted 23.4 miles (amongst murmurings of blisters, lateness for family events and hunger pangs) but have calculated this to be within the allowed +- 10%, so have forgiven myself as I hope my fellow walkers have too!
