Weather:  Hot and sunny

On another glorious day 14 people gathered in the Crook O Lune car park keen to know how bad the forthcoming scramble would be. I gave away very little, just in case they ran off.

We started the walk by circumnavigating the Crook in the river which is known as the Hermitage. Such a lovely spot. In between the disused railway bridge and the road bridge we came across a group of landscape artists who enjoined us to be models in their pictures. We declined as we had to be back by 14.30, upon pain of death for the walk leader!!

We then returned to the car park and set off across the fields to Halton Green and then by minor road to Halton Park. Passing through a succession of farms we had great views of the hills above Claughton. Lunch was taken in a field above Aughton, with views up the Lune Valley to Hornby Castle and beyond to the Three Peaks.

Dropping down to Aughton Barns we ambled along the River Lune as it performed a near 360% degree loop. Plans were now discussed on what we should do if someone couldn't traverse the scramble. My suggestion of walking across the Lune were met with initial scepticism.

On entering Lawsons Wood the mood was tense. The path was indented with several landslips and then we came to the scramble over the muddy stream and up between the fallen tree trunk. Everyone took it in their stride, easy peasy!! Suddenly the ancient woodland was green and welcoming.

Exiting Aughton Nature Reserve we crossed the Lune via the Water Works Bridge. We took a water stop in the shade of the bridge. Refreshed we resumed our amble along the river, both dog owners taking the chance to cool their dogs in the Lune. Such a pity we hadn't taken the opportunity to walk across the Lune!!

We returned to our starting point by walking down the disused railway line. On a positive note the walk was 9.9 miles in length but horror of horrors it was 15.00. I was in disgrace.

Thanks to everyone for joining me on the walk and in particular to Glynn and Geoff for taking the pictures which can be seen 'here'
