Eagley and Turton Round 24th February

Leader                John Crook
Number on walk  15 plus 1 dog
Distance             14.5 miles
Weather             Bright frosty day

When we left our house it was bitterly cold and we walked through Longworth and Eagley Cloughs passing Eagley Mills and the ruins of Oaks Hall  to Hall ith Wood Museum which is associated with Samuel Crompton, the inventor of the spinning mule. The walk then took us up the Higher Bradshaw Valley to the Jumbles reservoir where we had our morning break.
By now the sun was warming the day up and we went on through Turton Bottoms and Barlow woods to our dinner stop at the Barlow Institute. After lunch it was on past the Wayoh reservoir, the Strawberry Duck pub and the dam of the Entwistle reservoir to take the concessionary path to Chapeltown village, having a look at the village stocks, and on to Turton Towers. Finally we went over by Torra Barn to Cox Green Road and down to arrive back home at 3pm where Marilyn had tea and home made cakes waiting for us.
Many thanks to all who came on the walk and everyone said they had enjoyed it.
