Whalley Tues 23.1.18

Walk leader: Lynn Rossiney

Number on walk 26

Weather: quite mild for January with heavy rain later

Distance: 11 miles

As this was my first walk for West Lancs I was pleasantly surprised when 26 people turned up.

Starting at Whalley Abbey we set off towards the river Calder and the boundary of Calderstones Hospital and the line of the Ribchester/Ilkley Roman Road. We then ascended Higher Standen Hey, then down to the River Ribble and along to Edisford Bridge where we had lunch.

After lunch we carried on towards Clitheroe via Back Commons towards and through the town centre and then made our way towards Low Moor and over Pendleton Beck through to Standen Hall along the traffic free road to the A59.

Walking towards Barrow we then turned left to Wiswell .  I would have liked to continue over to Clerk Hill but the weather and time was not on my side so we carried on down the road  back to Whalley.

Thanks to everyone for turning up and to Glyn for taking the photos which can be seen by clicking 'here'
