The Walk:-

Walk Leader - Glyn Watson

Number on Walk - 17 + 1 at lunch

Weather - Sleet and a cold bitter wind

Distance - 11.43 miles

The group assembled at the Swan With Two Necks pub at 10am for this week's walk. We set off on the road out of Pendleton towards Pendleton Hall then followed the tarmac bridal way to Little Mearley Hall. Conditions at first were good (as the wind was to our backs) as we were pushed along at a good pace. Leaving the Hall we followed the '2017 Plod route' and passed through Angram Green, Hookcliffe and Clay House before arriving at Downham for lunch and joining up with Andy (new member) and his dog.

After lunch the route followed the 'Tea and Cake Trail' past the 'fairy rocks' and over Rimmington Road, by Newfield Barn and under the railway. The mud was now pretty bad and with the biting wind and hale in our faces the pace slowed. Swinging down into Chatburn the conditions improved and we quickly crossed the A59 (one of three crossings of a busy trunk road). Up the side of the Drumlin (Worsaw Hill) where it was slippery so we had to be careful, then on to Worston and the Calf's Head (nearly losing some of the group due to stiles and the pace). Reassembling on the old A59 we followed this by recrossing the new A59 and following the old road again past a large housing development outside Clitheroe.

The final mile was across fields (muddy and wet) across the A59 (again) and back to Pendleton. The group was 'linear'..... or spread as we encountered more mud, large deep puddles. Arriving back at 2.35pm just before a large shower all seemed ok if a little tired given the conditions.

Thank you to Shirley for the photo's and all for joining me on a breezy and cold walk ( with a bit of mud )....
