Remembrance Sunday, Nov 12th
Meeting up at Rivington Laying our wreath
Walk Leader: Doreen
Number on walk: 19 for the service, 14 for the walk
Distance: 12.5 miles
Weather: Perfect autumn day
In beautiful autumn sunshine, the 19 people, who had met at the bottom barn at Rivington, set off on the 2 miles walk to the Bomber memorial for the annual Remembrance Day service. There was a good crowd gathered already when we arrived. The two minutes silence was followed by the laying of wreaths and the short service was led by a member of Chorley Ramblers. This year the poem to Joe Timperon, from his mother, was beautifully read by a lady who did readings professionally.
Afterwards, 14 of us started out on our walk, passing Simms, and over the moor to Great Hill farm where we had our lunch. We then continued, turning right after Drinkwaters, towards Brinscall, but descending, before Well Lane, through the plantations to eventually reach White Coppice and onwards to arrive back at our cars about 3.40 pm.
