Our latest Munroists

On Wednesday 31/8/2016 two of our members became COMPLEATERS....

Mike and Kate’s 284th  Munro

On 29th August 2016 Kate, Mike, John B, John E and Andrew drove to a house in Kinlochleven where we met up with Ken.

On Tuesday morning we set off early to tackle 3 of the Munros in Glen Etive – i.e. Glas Bheinn Mhor, Stob Coir’an Albannaich and Meall nan Eun. These had been failed before but today we were on a mission!

It was overcast but the sun soon came out and it turned into a great hill-walking day. Ten hours later we returned to the cars in jubilant mood – Glen Etive was history!

The next day we set off for Buachaille Etive Mor at the head of Glen Coe.  It was wet, so having cagged up, we took a wet path up Lairig Gartain heading for a river crossing to give access to the hill. A long, steep climb brought us eventually to the beallach.  We then turned south-east over Stob Coire Altruim and on to Stob na Broige – our penultimate Munro.  We retraced our route to the bealach where the formidable top of Stob na Doire at 1011m confronted us. Then on to Stob Dearg – Mike and Kate’s final Munro!!!

The mist cleared spasmodically to give good views and photographs taken we set off down the very steep Coire naTulaich for Altnafeadh and crossed the River Coupall.

Mike and Kate were greeted by a Lone Piper – it was MAZ – Ken’s girlfriend.

(She had braved the elements earlier and climbed the Munro to meet us- only to be thwarted by our later-than-expected arrival at the summit.)

Maz played Mist Covered Mountains and Scotland the Brave expertly – it brought tears to our eyes!

Next stop – KINGSHOUSE to celebrate!!!!!!

It has been a tough 14 years with lots of ups and downs but well done to Mike and Kate who are our most recent Compleaters or Munroists
