Welcome to the West Lancashire Group...

Formed almost 40 years ago, our group has been thriving ever since. With a membership from a wide variety of backgrounds, we are a happy bunch, full of banter and good humour – even in the  rain. Every year we put on a balance of walks and a challenge walk.

Our walks are done at an accommodating pace and cater for members of varying abilities. Non-members are welcome to join us, dogs must be on a short lead on all walks, although we suggest they contact our Walk Leader first, to check the nature of the walk.

Our walks include; Tuesday walks of approximately 10 miles. These are held within easy driving distance of the Preston Area, which includes the West Pennine Moors, the Ribble Valley and the Bowland Hills. There are 3 or 4 of these every month.

Twice a month we have longer walks, always listed in Strider Magazine, which range in distance from 15 to upwards of 20 miles and are described in more detail on our ‘walks programme’ page.

Every year we walk a long distance path/route and this year we successfully completed the Wainwright's Way from Blackburn to Buttermere. You can see the reports in 'Group Activities'.

On Wednesday 28th June we had our annual 'fish & chip' walk which was again a great success. See 'Group Activities' for more on this.

We annually put on a challenge walkthe Anglezarke Amble, held in February, which attracts entrants from all parts of the country and is always fully subscribed.

Our monthly meetings are now held in the Sea View Inn, Preston Road (A6), Whittle-le-Woods, commencing at 19.45 hrs. The nearest postcode is PR6 7HH (which takes you up the road a bit). The OS grid reference is SD 583 194 or you can see the location on Google Maps by clicking here.

Whilst much of the talk is about ‘shop’, there is a lot of lively chat and we do try our best to make them a social occasion.

The date of the next meeting at the Sea View will be September 18thOn the 21st August we will not be meeting at the Sea View, but will be doing an evening social walk starting at 7pm from the Ley Inn pub Clayton-le-Woods.

Why not come and join us……if you’re a reasonably fit walker there’s sure to be something for you and what’s more……you’re bound to be made welcome.
