Welcome to the West Lancashire Group...
Formed over 30 years ago, our group has been thriving ever since. With a membership from a wide variety of backgrounds, we are a happy bunch, full of banter and good humour – even in the rain. Every year we put on a balance of social walks and a challenge walk.
Our social walks are done at an accommodating pace and cater for members of varying abilities. Non-members are welcome to join us, although we suggest they contact our Walk Leader first, to check the nature of the walk. Social walks include;
- Tuesday walks of approximately 10 miles. These are held within easy driving distance of the Preston Area, which includes the West Pennine Moors, the Ribble Valley and the Bowland Hills. There are 3 or 4 of these every month.
Twice a month we have longer walks, always listed in Strider Magazine, which range in distance from 15 to upwards of 20 miles and are described in more detail on our ‘walks programme’ page.
This year we have walked stage one of the Wainwright's Way from Blackburn to Windermere and we are planning on walking stage two in June and July so keep your eye on 'Latest News' for latest information. The walk around Kendal is certainly worth doing. Have a look at ‘Wainwright’s Kendal 2017’ under ‘Members’ Articles’ above just to see why.
We annually put on a challenge walk, the Anglezarke Amble, held in February, which attracts entrants from all parts of the country and is always fully subscribed.
Our monthly meetings are now held in the Sea View Inn, Preston Road (A6), Whittle-le-Woods, commencing at 19.45 hrs. The nearest postcode is PR6 7HH (which takes you up the road a bit). The OS grid reference is SD 583 194 or you can see the location on Google Maps by clicking here.
Whilst much of the talk is about ‘shop’, there is a lot of lively chat and we do try our best to make them a social occasion.
Dates of forthcoming meetings are as follows: May 15th, June 19th and July 17th.
Why not come and join us……if you’re a reasonably fit walker there’s sure to be something for you and what’s more……you’re bound to be made welcome.
