The Spen Way Heritage Trail - July 2017

Spen Way Heritage Trail Sun July 23

9 walkers met at Royds Park at Kleckheaton on a cloudy and not very promising morning.

Our leader was Chris Hayley assisted by Maggie and we made our way towards Scholes over hills and valleys through lovely countryside which at first sight looked to be an industrial area. When on the hills we got fantastic views to the West over the rolling hills and valleys what a great area just South of industrial Bradford.

We made our way to East Bierley for our pub stop at the New Inn pub, unfortunately up for rent, where one of the rooms was upholstered in jeans, very unusual.

Suitably refreshed we made our way to Gomersal which has an unusual church and onward to Oakwell Hall, an Elizabethan Manor, where ice creams were enjoyed by many. The weather had turned quite warm and stayed good until the last few minutes back to Royds Park when we had some rain.

What a great walk well led by Chris enjoyed by all . Well done Chris.
