A Donny Walkabout - Aug 2016

12 folk met at Barnburgh Church and we noticed that the local phone box was now a library.  We went up a bridleway [Stables Lane] and onto Barnburgh Cliff where on the LHS there were some faces carved into the rock.  Then it was through the crop fields to High Melton and onto Denaby Ings.  At the main bridge it was left following the Trans Pennine Trail, over a lock to pick up the River Dun navigation, over the River Don and railway into Old Denaby where we had our morning break stop.

It was then up The Green and into Denaby Woods and along a ridge path into Conisbrough along a street called Wellgate [so named after a well in it].  We went into the lovely castle grounds where a few of us were having a few freebies of wine tasting and jam/preserve tasting (compliments of English Heritage).  We then descended down to the River Don and walked alongside it to Conisbrough Station where we crossed the line and then over the river to then turn right to walk along a cycle path and then alongside the viaduct into Sprotbrough via the stairway to heaven!!!  onto The Ivanhoe pub where we met up with Dave & Jean Newbould.

We then went over the fields to the road at Marr and back through Melton Wood Country Park and back to Barnburgh.

A very enjoyable day well lead by Jean, many thanks Jean.
