To Back Tor & Back Revisited - 21st September 2013

Just nine walkers turned out for this walk which was a re-run of a walk which was cancelled in March of this year due to the very inclement weather conditions (deep snow). We left Low Bradfield under grey skies but with the promise of improving weather conditions as the day progressed. Our walk initially took us up to High Bradfield and then on to Rocher Head before taking the ancient packhorse route of Duke's Road across Broomhead Moor to the head of Abbey Brook. The mist descended with a vengance up on the moor top but after a short spell of heather bashing we managed to find the feint trod which is the path down the stunning ravine of Abbey Brook towards the Derwent Valley. Our route then took us over Lost Lad and Back Tor where some of our party, (who shall remain nameless), decided to follow another walking group who crossed our path in the mist! Having shepherded them back we then descended towards the Strines Inn where we took refreshment. The mist lifted in the afternoon and we returned to Low Bradfield in glorious sunshine via Strines Reservoir, Moscar, Ughill Moors and Dale Dike Reservoir.
