Event Details

The Punchbowl Marathon is a challenge walk (or run) on the footpaths and bridleways of Surrey. Two routes are offered, 20 & 30 miles. Both routes pass around the scenic Devil's Punchbowl. Start times, 0730 for walkers and 0830 for runners, joggers and fast walkers. All to finish by 1800.

Runners should note that this event is not a race and does not follow a marked route. It is a cross country event open to walkers, runners & joggers in which you need to follow a detailed route description. If you happen to go wrong then you might well need map-reading skills to get yourself back on route.

The event, which normally takes place on the second Sunday in February, can be subject to the vagaries of winter weather. Should the need arise then any changes to the event will be posted on this site and emailed to the email address given during the on-line entry process.

Checkpoints There are 3 checkpoints along the route (2 on the 20 route) providing drinks and light refreshments - sandwiches, fruit & rice, biscuits, tea & squash - and a friendly welcome!!
Requirements Map 1:50000 Landranger 186 or 1:25000 Explorer 133 & 145, compass, map case & whistle, hat & gloves, waterproofs, good torch for 5pm+ finishers, warm clothing, money for bus in case of retirement.

Route

Is devised by Dave Challenger. A detailed route description (20 & 30 combined) can be downloaded here. Please ensure that you print off a copy of the route description and bring it to the event (copies are not available at registration)The 2014 route is reversed from previous years with additional route changes - so please don't rely on your memory! Also please note that due to the recent heavy rains and the forecast for more to come, underfoot conditions are very wet. In particularly on the 30M route, flooding maybe encountered in the Elstead area. A road alternative to the river bank along the Wey at Elstead is included in the route description. Should flooding be encountered you MUST take this road alternative.
