Heading home

Five set out from Cullingworth , others put off their journey by a snowy weather forecast. We headed across Harden Moor to pick up the Worth Way above Keighley, passing through Hainworth & over Brow Moor in light snow flurries to reach Oxenhope for the first stop.

With the snow increasing & setting we headed for the uplands to take a fine path round a catchwater drain; ascending to cross snow bound Thornton Moor & Ovenden Moor with new bigger wind turbines being assembled. A lovely unmarked access path gradually meandered down from the uplands through trees to reach picturesque Ogden Water.

Crossing the snowy A629 we headed upwards appropriately toward Mountain where excellent views opened across the valley to Thornton & Bradford. A second stop at West Scholes preceded a fine valley path which swept down then up to join the old railway line which used to link Bradford/Halifax & Keighley via Queensbury.  Now a surfaced cycle path we headed across impressive Thornton viaduct with far reaching views to join the Bronte Way through the cemetery & up appropriately to Hill Top Road.

Descending across fields we reached Doe Park Res & later stopped for a photo call by some inquisitive Alpacas.  The former railway line was rejoined by Wilsden old station & followed over imposing Hewenden Viaduct affording fine views to reach our terminus back in Cullingworth by three o'clock.

And no better way to finish a fine walk than heading for the excellent George pub with a welcome roaring wood burner & the pubs own Old Spot beers brewed down the road. Thanks to Jackie, Mick, Tony & Peter for turning out given the wintry forecast: the snow caught up with us but not for too long & by early afternoon had cleared away.
