2015 12 10 Crompton Crackers

This was a walk put on at short notice.  An email was sent to group members and I was surprised, nay amazed, to see so many people turn up on what was a bad day weather wise.  Our route was over the hill to Newhey then along a running stream then onward to Windy Hill where we sheltered in the lee of a lorry while we snacked.  The Pennine Way and the Station to Station path was used to reach Marsden from there up and over Pule Hill, the Pennine Way, Dowry Reservoir then Piethorne Reservoir.  A final sting in the tail up to High Crompton gave us a total of 22.5 miles.

Thanks to Neil for his excellent images  taken in bad weather.  A brilliant turnout of walkers at short notice.  Thanks to all.

Norman.

Norman kindly stepped in at the last minute to put a walk on today to cover John's planned walk that couldn't take place.  So 8 of us gathered in the rain for an 08:00 start at High Crompton Park, Shaw.  And rain it did during the morning despite the forecast to the contrary.  It had rained most of the night and as a consequence it was extremely wet underfoot with paths turned into streams and plenty of standing water too.  Climbing for much of the way we made our way to Windy Hill.  A coffee break was taken in the shelter provided by an articulated lorry.  Continuing over the moors we made our way down to Marsden.  It had stopped raining by now and we had lunch at Tunnel End.

Climbing again we passed a memorial cross above Marsden and over to Standedge.  Dropping down past reservoirs and then through Newhey we arrived back at the cars for 15:40.  22.5 miles and a good walk with thanks to Norman.
