2015 06 25 Shutlingsloe

Every leaders nightmare....8.15 and an empty car park.Thankfully minutes later my co-walker Julie Gardner
arrived with Johnny her dog...Phew!!!!  8.35 we set off,the walk instantly upgraded from moderate to brisk!

Shutlingsloe was quickly bagged, then up through the rugged Cumberland Brook via 3 shire heads and wiken walls
for our first stop FLASH,we had no camera so no flash photography! Onwards and Upwards we headed for HILLTOP
then onto Axe Edge Moor with splendid views of Burbage and Buxton to our right .Dropping down skirting Berry Clough
and Goyt's Moss into the beautiful Goyt Valley we had our second stop for lunch.

A party of students mapping the course of the river Goyt shattered the peace....time to Go!!

A shaded riverside path led us to our track out of the valley up to the ruins of Errwood Hall then up again through
the wooded valley of Foxlow Edge to Pym Chair with magnificent views of the Welsh hills.

After a short stretch of tarmac we were back on track.Rolling hills and deserted buildings were the order of the day
from now.A small gap in the forest trees gave us our first view of Lamaload reservoir,a perfect spot for a quick
drink.Refreshed we took the reservoir path...homeward bound! A brief chat with a local farmer and his wife enjoying
a cuppa outside their house,a couple of styles,a wooded path, saw us back at the car park.

23 miles...over 4000ft assent...4pm.Thanks for the company Julie and the detours.

Ps  I made it at 08:45 after being on the late side and then getting lost in Macc Forest.  Did a walk of my own and managed to catchup with Ron and Julie as I was finishing a coffee from the boot of my car.  Just in time for a photo call.
