2014 07 24 The Flash Connection

Todays objective was to walk from Pennington Flash near Leigh to Wigan Flashes and return via Haydock Park racecourse.

As we are in middle of the holiday season, numbers were down on normal but we welcomed Phil from Bolton and Paul from Swinton, who was trying us out for the first time. Initially surprised by the pace, Paul soon got to grips with LDWA walking and spent most of the day in Norman's slipstream.

Temperatures in the mid twenties made for a demanding day even though the route itself was almost without contour. At times we felt like David Livingstone (must get treatment!) as we battled through woodland and waist high vegetation. Thankfully the woodland shade meant we could make decent progress. Everyone took advantage of the ice cream vendor at the lunch stop.

Back by 3pm with 19 miles recorded by my GPS. Another good walk by Norman in an area not previously visited.
