2014 02 20 Hardcastle Crags

Not quite as many on walk as there should have been. Steve held up in traffic jam and Lynn & Neil in the wrong car park. Unable to connect by phone so off we went without them. The word is getting out that our walks are worth coming for with Julie arriving from Liguria in Italy and Alex even arrived from Castleford.

Nine of us (plus Paige a dog) set off on the Pennine Way to Hebble Hole. On to Calderdale Way to Great Rock where John demonstrated how not to rock climb by falling on his face. Next stop was Great Bride Stones where Con, reminiscing about previous climbs, pointed out the best route up 'The Egg'. Past the Sportsmans, no longer trading, we headed towards the Gorple Reservoirs. Lunch taken at the Upper reservoir with some wild scenery to admire. A sheep was spotted trapped in the drainage channel, and I am happy to report that Brenda spoke to the farmer later in the day and it was duly rescued.

Over the hill to some stunning views of Widdop Reservoir. On to a tarmac track for most of the way to Walshaw and then a descent to Hardcastle Crags. A lovely river walk to Gibson Mill before the cruel sting in the tail of a steep climb up to the car park at the finish.
