2014 01 09 Clayton Le Dale

Clayton-Le-Dale

The weather forecast for our walk was not good.  However our regular stalwarts plus a very welcomed friend Jackie from the West Lancs Group set of with gusto at 8:30am from Barker Brow car park.  We followed the course of a Roman Road, passed two farms which resembled scrap yards and it started to rain.  I put on waterproofs and guess what, the rain stopped.  Only being half daft I kept the waterproofs on because I knew the ground and pathways were supersaturated with water. We went round Samlesbury Aerodrome, our third visit to an Aerodrome in recent walks.  The route then was Mellor Moor with its earth work which had been a Roman signalling station and more recently a nuclear fallout monitoring unit.  Continuing our journey we passed Midge Hall, Clayton-le-Dale/Salesbury, Dinkley  and walked along the Ribble River bank tp Salesbury Hall and across to Bolton Hall.  We finished our 22mile walk via Higher and Lower Cadshaw farms at 4pm.  Somewhere along our journey our phantom Yorkshire Elephant spotter had managed to fall off a stile and covered himself in mud; he had not taken a selfie photo mid flight which is a pity.  Thanks to Neil for his other images with this report.
