August 2017 News Letter
Hi All,
Hope you’re all enjoying this blistering Summer and taking advantage of bone dry fells, dusty paths and slapping on factor 50 like its going out of fashion….
….3,2,1..Yer back in the room!
OK, so far I think we can all agree the Summer weather so far has been pretty atrocious but given we are hardy northern folk, I’m sure this is not putting you off enjoying the boggy moorland, muddy paths and slapping on Goretex on every outing….hey, ho, It will soon be Winter when we can look forward to more of the same but 5 degrees cooler.
So, enough of this negativity, let’s see what we have in store for next month.
Couple of things first.
Due to personal circumstances, I’m having to take a back seat as the lead for the SP24 in 2018.
The reins are being taken over by Anne Webb and a mail will be going out shortly for a ‘call to arms’ to request a commitment to support the event. This will be the decider as to whether the SP24 will be run in 2018.
Secondly, only 2 people have expressed an interest in a post New Year meal. Do you want to continue with this South Pennine tradition?
I will canvass the masses again in October as this is when I usually book a venue (Cross Keys Next year). The proposed date will be 06.01.18.
Finally, a plug for my other (demanding) role. August Bank holiday(and the week prior) is the annual Craven Pothole Club public winch meet at Gaping Gill. A truly remarkable experience for the general public and a chance to view what is considered one of the worlds natural wonders(And the tallest waterfall in the UK). If anyone is interested in paying a visit, give me a shout and I will provide further information.

You will have all now received the latest Strider and I think you will all agree, Ron has done a sterling job in compiling and press ganging people to produce a great walks program for the next quarter.
What do we have in store for August?
