May 2017 News Letter

During the last meeting, the E mail distribution list was discussed. It was observed the list of people is a personal list that has been developed over the years South Pennine LDWA has been active. The list contains E mails that are either current members, members that have left and in one or two cases deceased. There are also gaps whereby we have new members that are not on the distribution list. So, it was decided the monthly report/’what’s new’/ my humourless rhetoric would be best delivered via the bulk mailing list to all the South Pennine members and its associate members.. Here goes.

Early in April, we held a general meeting and the SP24 de-brief. It was decided that as a result of this year’s successful event, we will run this again. The date we have decided on for the ‘SP24’ 2018 is 24th February 2018. Several areas were discussed as to where we could improve. The main one being making the CP personnel a little more comfortable. With this in mind, if anyone has any large tent flysheet and poles going spare can they give me a shout..It doesn’t have to be 100% waterproof but this could be used as a shelter in the more exposed CP’s providing a bit of comfort to the volunteers and entrants.

The good news is, this year we made a profit therefore a donation was made to the respective MRT’s that cover the area and the Air ambulance. I have since received a letter of thanks from Oldham MRT.

We also discussed whether we could help out on the 2019 Hadrians wall ‘100’ . We decided that we do not have the resource to commit to this at this moment in time. However, we may be able to help out on the marshalls event nearer the time.

The date of the AGM was decided. We have yet to source a venue but it will more than likely be a local Saddleworth pub  The date will be the 12th September 2017 at 7.30 – all welcome.

So, what’s coming up in May? I’ve heard that this time of year the LDWA hold a bit of a stroll in our glorious countryside. Apparently it’s a bit tough and you might get the odd blister?..Yep, it’s the Annual ‘100’ ..Held in Gods own country this year..The North Yorkshire Moors 100’.

Good luck to all that enter and have a great event!
