January 2017 News Letter

Hi All,

Hope you had a fabulous Christmas and looking forward to the New year.

Only a couple of things to report on.

Ron has now completed the walks program for Spring/Early Summer. This is now on the website. Can those who have agreed to lead walks take a look at the site to ensure the details are correct. If there is anything you need correcting , can you let Ron know by mid January.

The post New Year meal at the Church Inn is now full…again. Anyone not attending the meal is more than welcome to join us on the walk but please be aware, the mileage will be reduced as the day is a ‘social affair’.

Finally, the SP24 will soon be upon us. We are anticipating the event to be filled over the next few week but if anyone is attending any of the challenge walks in the next few weeks, can they push the event…especially to ‘walkers’.

Finally, here is a run-down on what’s coming up next month:-

Saturday, 7th Jan, Seasonal Celebration. Our annual walk and meal from Greenfield station. 09:00 start.13 miles(approx.) Meal booking is full but anyone welcome to join the walk.

Thurs 12th Jan, ‘Moor Bronte Wanderings : Hope It's Worth It’. Ian Hull is leading a 20 mile walk from Conservative Club, Station Rd, Cullingworth. 08;00 start, NO DOGS, brisk pace.

Thurs 26th Jan, Loop de Loop. Neil Cartwright is leading a 20 mile walk from Godley rlwy stn. 09:00 start. A linear route to Manchester city centre. Return by train (bring fare). Moderate pace.

Neil has said ‘on completion of the walk Lynn and I will be calling at the Waterhouse, for curry and a pint, all are welcome to partake.’

With regard to challenge walks in our area, there is:-

Sun 1st Jan 2017 Hangover Hike

Sat 7th Jan 2017 Scarborough Rock

Sat 21st Jan 2017 The Hebden - Event Full

Sun 29th Jan 2017 That's Lyth.

Please refer to ‘Strider’ for full details of the social and challenge events.

So, that’s it from me.

Thanks to everyone who made 2016 a great year for the South Pennine group. We had a very full program and all the social walks were a success. Obviously our inaugural challenge event went without hitch and let’s hope we can match its success in 2017!

Have a fantastic New Year and best wishes to you all.

Hope to see some of you on the 7th Jan 17.

Cheers,

Glenn
