Styal Round

Styal Round AGM walk 18.01.2020

On a bright frosty morning, Dave G and Bess, Frank, Ned, Roger, Jasmina and Peter set off with David A from the Waggon and Horses in Handforth on slippery pavements through the urban and industrial sprawl along Spath Lane. Emerging onto the cycling path along the Airport Link road they endured the traffic noise to reach Hall Moss. The route had been changed to try and avoid too many sloppy fields and paths and so followed the minor road past Threeways and Blossom Farms to Grove End. Finally reaching “normal” tracks and paths they traversed Hall Wood, Moss Terrace (now transformed by Wimpey to Heathfield housing estate) to pass along Cross Lane, Brown Lane and Hollins Lane to reach the Bollin Valley Way.

All recent rain considered the sandy soil allowed reasonable going past Vardon Bridge skirting Wilmslow Park, to Join the North Cheshire Way, through the Carrs to Twinnies Bridge. The pace picked up ascending to Styal Mill Car Park, passing the Apprentice House then along the edge of Cross Farm to the War Memorial. The final leg along Station Road, Sagars Road and Clay Lane completed 9 ½ miles and about 30 meters ascent just in time to get fed and start the AGM at 1410.
