Round Rainow Evening Walk

On a fine evening on 7^th August Dave G, Duncan, Steve W and Avril met up with David A at the bottom of Hedges Row in Bollington for an evening walk.  A gradual ascent of hedges row then above Winterside Farm was followed by a descent into Mellow Clough where we searched for the foot bridge in vain but still found the path on the other side leading past Harrop Fold Farm to the Kettleshulme Road. After crossing the road it was necessary to divert through the field to avoid a soggy overgrown path before descending to Moss Brook.  The ascent across Saddle Cote began through chest high elephant grass before easing through pasture. Once on the crest we had great views across to Pym’s Chair and Shining Tor before reaching Bank Lane. A zig zag past Blue Boar Farm brought us to Waggonshaw Brow before descending through Common Barn towards Rainow.  By now the sun was setting below the horizon as we crossed the road, descended past the reservoir to reach Oakenbank Lane and the final descent in fading light to the start.  By the time most reached the Poachers for a welcome pint it was quite dark.  Logged at 6.02 miles!!
