Calver - Chatsworth circular (26/02/2017)

Eight set off from Calver - we were pleased to welcome Merrian and David from Beds, Bucks & Northants and everyone was fully awake after the early climb to Froggatt Edge. It was a breezy walk along the edges to Wellington's monument, with reasonable views. We were joined by a potential new member David Clift who had helped arrange the walk (at the beginning he was fine tuning the section around Robin Hood Plantations). We crossed Gibbet Moor and around Bunker's Hill Wood before entering the Chatsworth Estate. Everything was going smoothly and we were ahead of schedule until ...... we needed to rescue Quentin Blagg who had managed to get into the Chatsworth Gardens without paying and a month before they opened! It took a great deal of careful negotiating with a Chatsworth security man to release Quentin ... some of the party were rather reluctant!! After this setback we continued (now with two more than we started with) and quickly headed out of the Chatsworth Estate ... not sure if we will be allowed in again? We followed the river Derwent to Baslow then onto Bubnell and Bramley Farm with a challenging slide in the mud as we descended through St. Mary's Wood. We returned to Calver just before it started raining after an enjoyable 16 miles.
