GOYT VALLEY CHALLENGE 2020

High Peak LDWA  and South Manchester LDWA  
 
Sunday October 18th 2020


 
 
It’s a route of 24 or 13 miles for walkers and runners in the western Peak District, including Axe Edge, Goyt Valley, Shining Tor, Lamaload Reservoir, Kettleshulme, Taxal Moor and Fernilee
 
EVENT INFORMATION

Start/ Finish: Burbage Institute, Nursery lane, Buxton, SK17 6UL (GR: SK044729).
 
Registration opens from 6.30 am 
 
Start times: 8.00 all walkers and runners (long route); 8.30 runners (short route).
 
Finish no later than 7.00pm at Burbage Institute
 
Entry fee: £12.00 for LDWA members, £16.00 to all others. All entries via SI entries website
 
Full route description: Entrants must download the route description and all details relating to the route from the High Peak LDWA website www/ldwa.org.uk/HighPeak or via the South Manchester LDWA website, www/LDWA.org.uk/SouthManchester. Route descriptions and route maps will not be available at registration. 
 
Refreshments at checkpoints and a hot meal at finish. 
 
Bring your own mug.
 
Certificates on request will be presented to finishers. 
 
Entries limited to 300.
 Closing date for entries is 14th October.
 
No entries on the day.
 
The organisers reserve the right to modify and amend the information for the event and entrants are responsible for checking they have the latest information.

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

The 24 and 13 mile challenges are open to any person over the age of 18 on the day of the event and any entrant under 18 who is accompanied by a responsible adult.
 
All entrants must carry a compass and map and or gps device. Maps Explorer OL24, or Landranger 118 and 119.
 
It is your responsibility to have downloaded the complete route details.
 
You must also have sufficient knowledge, experience, equipment and navigation skills to take part in a challenge event, in all types of weather conditions.
 
All entrants must have appropriate footwear, wet weather and warm clothing. Dogs are allowed on a short lead and must be covered by third party insurance.

 
 
Entrants must not start the event if they have injury or illness that may prevent them from completing the event in the prescribed time limit.
 
Agree to comply with all the event rules and understand that no liability is accepted by the organisers for injury, damages or loss sustained during or in connection with the event.
 
CONDUCT OF THE EVENT

Throughout the event each entrant must follow the route description and keep to the designated route including any changes notified at the start or during the event.
 
Each entrant must get their time recorded and tally punched at each checkpoint, and ensure the tally is punched at any self-clips.
 
Comply with the Countryside Code and do nothing to bring the LDWA into disrepute.
 
Obey directions given to them by marshals.
 
RETIREMENTS

Participants may only retire at checkpoints when tallies must be surrendered and official transport back to the start must be used.
 
Participants will be retired if they arrive after the closure time of the checkpoint or if, in the opinion of the check point marshal, he/she is unfit to continue.
 
If a retiring entrant cannot reach a checkpoint they should pass their tally to another person to hand in, or call the event emergency telephone number: Jim Bosworth, mobile 07453 399326.
 
Under NO circumstances should anyone retire from the event without ensuring that the organisers are notified.
 
ROUTES AND ROUTE DESCRIPTIONS

The route is being checked and finalised, when complete it will be available on the High Peak website.
 
CANCELLATION & WITHDRAWAL

If the event is cancelled for any reason we will do our best to contact you before you start your journey, using the contact details that you have provided to us. We will also put a notice on our website and we ask you to check this before you depart. Cancellation of the event will be at the discretion of the organisers and your entry fee will be refunded less a proportional amount for costs incurred etc.
 If you withdraw your entry on or before 14th October your entry fee less any charges will be refunded via SiEntries. After that date no refunds will be allowed.
 
DATA PROTECTION

By entering this event you are agreeing to the following statement relating to data protection:
 
“I understand that the personal information submitted as part of this entry form will be held by the event organisers for a period of up to three years after the event is held for the purposes of managing this event only.  I further understand that photographs are likely to be taken at the event, which may be featured in Strider magazine or on LDWA websites.  In addition, I understand that Summary Information* may be published immediately and may be held in perpetuity for the purposes of providing a record of the event. I will have the right to request that all my personal Summary Information is anonymised, should I so request.”
 
Summary information is limited to the participant’s name, age, gender, postal town, email address, LDWA membership number, event name and date, distance covered, time recorded as well as any other linked walking achievement.

  • From North West, North, East, South and South East: travel to Buxton centre, take A53 for 0.8 mile, then turn right onto Bishops Lane (at SK 045 730) - look for event signs to car park.

    - From West (Macclesfield) take A54, then after junction with A53 continue for 0.6 mile and after traffic lights turn left onto Nursery Lane (at SK 044 729) - look for event signs to car park.

  • - From South West (Stoke) take A53 (Leek to Buxton), then after traffic lights, turn left onto Nursery Lane (at SK 044 729) - look for event signs to car park
