Ten us of met at Kettlewell Wharfedale for another jaunt of what is an ex-challenge event of 24 miles and by our reckoning, nearly 4000 ft of climb.  The weather was at its best first thing as some of us set off in shorts and short sleeves.  We climbed east out of Kettlewell, very briefly to start with on the Dales Way, but then following Lady Anne's Way taking us to Capplestone Gate.  Continuing above the scar settlement we headed south with Grassington being our aim.  The route covered generally grassy tracks and moorland before coming out on to Moor Lane at Yarnbury.  We headed down into Grassington for our first (morning) break.  Leaving Grassington we headed over the river at Linton falls to Linton.  Our journey took us through a well kept caravan site before climbing on to Threshfield moor and across a number of open fields to Bordley House Farm.  We climbed out of here and parked our assets at the side of a wall for more refreshments.  Then the rain came.  We had been so lucky up to now, but it was expected...and we didn't sit around for too long.  Mastiles Lane proved interesting.  Lots of cows with their young...head down and don't look....

At a turning point now, once at Street Gate we headed (NE) diagonally across open moorland - sign posted Arncliffe Cote - all the way to Hawswick.  This is an interesting and beautiful part of the walk.  I suspect you can see for miles - today it was wet and foggy - for a short while anyway.  Eventually we dropped down to Hawkswick and out the other side.  Our last climb of the day, once again on smooth grassy paths - the weather beginning to clear up - two miles later we arrived back in Kettlewell in dry weather and the sun trying to shine.

Thank you to our leader for a very special walk and to all those who joined us.
