Seven of us braved the cold and snow for this North Yorks Moors’ excursion from Helmsley. Our northerly outbound route took in Monk Holme Wood, Riccal Dale, Pockley Moor and Stork House - returning south via Ankness, Otterhill Commom, Beadlam Rigg and Hasty Bank - and finally rejoining the track back into Helmsley via Riccal Dale.
The weather remained around zero throughout but with intermittent sun, sleet, snow showers and low cloud. Thank goodness for a church and farmyard loft for our coffee stop and lunch!
A challenging day out with some quite tough and slippery terrain and indiscernible tracks due to snow cover - but thoroughly enjoyed by all. Thanks to Andy for an interesting and varied route and getting us around safely.
