Group Social Walk Routes


 On this page you will find descriptions of some of our social walks in Norfolk and Suffolk together with the relevant gpx file which you can download into your gps or mapping program.

If you don't have MemoryMap or similar you can use the Walkhighlands website or OS GetaMap where the gpx file may be uploaded free.

 

A Walk on the Wild Side devised by Peter Edwards - 24 miles                gpx file

Start and Finish: TM219453

A circular walk around Ipswich, starting at Kesgrave, taking in theOrwellCountryPark, Ipswich Marina, Bramford and returning via Westerfield.

Start: 12 Acre Approach off Bell Lane,Ipswich. IP5 1JF. Free public parking next to Kesgrave Conference Centre. Also accessible fromIpswich railway station via the 66 bus route (Tesco/Kesgrave stop) .

Route description: The route follows the Sandlings Walk toBucklesham Road. At TM207425 take the pedestrian walkway through the estate to emerge at  Sainsbury’s Superstore. Then a short section on road, arriving at theOrwellCountryPark(footbridge over A12). Follow Stour & Orwell Walk under theOrwellBridgeand arrive at Ipswich Marina (refreshments available).

Follow the Gipping Valley River Path to Bramford, leaving the river at Broomhill (TM127482). Follow the footpath opposite the Primary Care Trust (Rushbrook House) up the hill beside the rubbish tip. Emerge on the A12 slip road (keep to grass verge) beside West Meadows Travellers Site (TM133477). Cross the A12 at the Asda Superstore and continue on footpath between A12 and Park & Ride (signposted Whitton).

Carry on to the trig point above Westerfield (TM172484). Cross footbridge over railway at Lacy’s Farm (TM190473). Carry on to Rushmere St Andrew to return to Kesgrave.

Two Rivers, the Sea and maybe a Punch by Viv Mason - 20 miles gpx file

We leave from GR TM354492 (the end of Woodbridge Base runway)  We walk through some forestry across to the Butley river wall to Shingle Street and the beach. Following this for a mile or so we cross the peninsula via Alderton to the river Deben stopping at Ramsholt for lunch (around 12.5 miles). Along the Deben river wall across the common and back to the Rendlesham Forestry site and end of runway (around 7.5 miles)
