As a 17.30 finish can't be guaranteed, walk leader Rod Smith suggests buying an off-peak day return, valid for the high-speed if they wish.

Updated walks notes are as follows:

Buy an off-peak day return ticket to Dover – with Railcard - from Charing Cross (catch the 07:40), £18.15, or from St Pancras on the high-speed (catch the 08:42), £22.40.  The former is due at Folkestone Central at 09:22 where there is a café and toilets on the platform; the latter is due at Folkestone Central at 09:35.

What is the connection between Ron’s City Plaques walk and Rod’s walk ?   Answer: Fred Cleary !

ROUTE DESCRIPTION 20 miles –

From Folkestone Central Station exit at 09:40, CT19 5HB, TR220362, proceed to the sea front, and on to the Battle of Britain Memorial Trust café, flight 1, at Capel-le-Ferne for free tea and coffee, and toilets.  Thence, with fine views of potentially more than 60 miles from Dungeness to Dunkirk, along the cliffs to Dover where there is a Wetherspoons, The Eight Bells, or a very attractive, newly-updated seafront.

The afternoon starts from The Eight Bells, and proceeds to the Duke of York Royal Military School via the Blériot Memorial, flight 2.  From the DoY, we head to St Margarets and further free tea, coffee, and toilets at Pines Garden Tea Room & Museum, before returning along the white cliffs to Dover bus and train stations.

Because of livestock, no dogs please.  Rod Smith 079 0512 5820
