Before we get down to business as usual, many congratulations to Val Dawson, Adam's other half, for completing the London Marathon while raising funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Meanwhile, route planning and testing for this year's new-look Founders Challenge is steaming ahead, with drafts from Peaslake-Shere and Tanners-Shere already prepared, while Gordon is working on one from Guildford-Peaslake-Tanners. As you may have read in April Strider, this year's event - scheduled for Saturday October 5th - features a change of venue (St. Catherine's Hall Guildford, much more convenient to access than the traditional Peaslake start) as well as two brand new routes of 20 and 30 miles. Entries open this week. Here's to a strong representation from London Group members!

Now for this week. On Saturday, Jerome is concluding his London to Brighton odyssey, with the final leg starting from Hassocks. All the details below, as usual.

The Layers of London

And now for something completely different, as they used to say back in the mists of time on Monty Python's Flying Circus..The Layers of London (LoL) https://www.layersoflondon.org/ project is a unique, free, historical and geographical resource for people to explore London using historical maps and to find out the stories from the past. Walk leaders planning city rather than rural routes and looking for intriguing snippets of information might like to check it out.
