London LDWA

The month of May is almost always a time when you can see England's green spaces and countryside at its best, and this week's walks provide a perfect opportunity. First up is Ron's midweek daytime on Wednesday, when he will be leading us  through the blossom-decked parks and demesnes between Wimbledon and Kingston. Saturday's jaunt has Ron in charge of proceedings once again and offers the chance to see how both Essex and Suffolk are looking in the spring sunshine.

Could you be the new coordinator of the Founders Challenge?

IMAGINE making 200 people very tired and happy on an autumn day in Surrey. London LDWA needs someone to take on the coordination of its Founders Challenge event in 2019. Gordon Parker has taken a leading role in this event since 2011 and wants to stand down after this year's event on 13th October.

The Founders Challenge is a key event maintaining the LDWA's traditional link to its origins in the Surrey Hills. There's a strong group of supporters who regularly help out so this really is a coordinating role but permissions have to be sought, marshals placed, transport from trains organised and the event managed on the day.

If you are interested in taking on this task you can shadow Gordon this year. He will be starting the next steps in late May. To find out more, please contact him at gordonparker46@gmail.com.

Zoltan Capital Challenge

Capital Challenge 2018
This and the scene below are just two of the brilliant photos taken by Zoltan Fodor on last month's Capital Challenge. Runner Zoltan was the first to finish, but considerately stopped for a beer so he didn't arrive ahead of checkpoint opening times. A perfect entrant!
