Dear all
Well as temperatures take a nosedive, and snow once again threatens to clothe our green and pleasant land, it does indeed feel that perhaps Christmas isn't that far away after all.
But no - before we head off to deck the halls with boughs of holly, we have a rather more immediate - but very Christmassy - event in store for your enjoyment this week. And - in a particularly radical departure for the London Group, we are going on a bus journey in pursuit of our yuletide adventure.
So, with your excitement suitably piqued, let's have a quick look at our walks programme for the coming week..
First up, on Thursday, Godfrey, who is clearly vying to snatch the title of king of the pop ups from Ron, is going to be leading us on the second part of his trailblazing expedition to Rickmansworth. This time, on Thursday, he will be seeing in March in style and rendezvousing (is that actually a word?) at Northwood Hills station at 10.25 on Thursday morning. It's sure to be a good walk, so if you have the day off, do make every effort to get there. And there's even the possibility that a major pub chain might feature in the itinerary (but not in Pennsylvania..).
Now let's move on to the weekend and that heavily-trailed bus journey..
A bus Your transport to the Christmas Common walk on Saturday. Remember to get off at the right spot - and to look out for Red Kites overhead
Yes, on Saturday , Peter will be leading the charge from Victoria Coach station and heading off into the wilds of Oxfordshire to explore the Ridgeway and the deep Chiltern hills around Christmas Common. If you'd like to go on this really interesting new type of trip, you need to meet at bus stop on the B4009 immediately to the west of the M40, (not in the village of Lewknor itself) at 09.40 on Saturday morning. Assuming you will be travelling by bus, all the details of the coach station etc. are in the walk summary below - please see especially the walk update (in red), so please take a few minutes to read them carefully.
So that's all for now. Have a great week, and don't forget to get our AGM on Thursday 8 March in your diaries (click here and here).
