London LDWA

Hello everyone!

Well, if you're a meeting enthusiast, this week we're offering you a galaxy of opportunities for you to put your bureaucratic skills to good use.

Because, not only is it the London LDWA AGM this week, we've also got the National LDWA AGM coming up at the weekend, too.

There's a little more on both these events, plus a reminder about the up-coming North York Moors "100", in the "urgent reminders" box below:

URGENT REMINDERS!

LDWA London AGM (and pre-walk):

First of all, on Thursday (9 March) this week, we're holding our AGM.   This never-to-be-missed event is coming to you from Pizza express, no less, in Holborn, and starts at 18:30.   Do make an effort to be there and find out what's going in in London LDWA, and have your voice heard.   You'll need to let Douglas, our Secretary, know if you want to come.   There's also a "pop-up" walk beforehand - see later in this note for more info on this.

Click here to find out more about the AGM and for details about how to contact Douglas.

LDWA National AGM:

Just like buses, you never seem to be able to find an AGM when you need one, then all of a sudden two come along at once.   So next weekend, it's the national LDWA AGM, which is being held this year in magical Milton Keynes.   See the link below for more information about this never-to-be-missed event

NYM 100:

And finally, you may have seen Susanne's note last week asking for volunteers to help out at this year's annual LDWA 100 mile challenge hike.   It's being held in the beautiful surrounds of the North York Moors National Park on 26-28 May and, as in previous years, LDWA London will be helping out.   We're running a checkpoint at lovely Robin Hood's bay and volunteers will be able to fit in some excellent hiking as well as offering much-needed refreshment and moral support to weary 100 mile hikers.

If you'd like to join the fun (and it really is fun) click here to find out more about what's on offer and how you can get involved.

So now - what's happening on the walking front this week?

Well, as trailed a little earlier, first of all, on Thursday, in advance of the AGM, Ron is leading us on a "pop up" walk through London, finishing at the AGM venue, and visiting some of the campanological highlights of the city.   If you'd like to join this walk (and it comes highly recommended by everyone who did the equivalent walk with Ron last year), you'll need to take the afternoon off and be at Limehouse station at 12.00 (or 12.45 if you're prepared to forgo the refreshments) on Thursday.Oranges and lemons lyrics

A colourful guide to the some of the sights along the route of Thursday's pre-AGM pop up walk
Although the worst fate that the last to finish is likely to encounter is the rather less daunting prospect of having to buy the drinks in the pub!

And then on Saturday, if you're not heading off to the National AGM,  Jerome is going to be striking out west, and leading an exploration of the upper reaches of the Thames Valley.   This 20-miler takes in some delightful Chiltern scenery, which should be looking particularly alluring as the early spring flowers start to show their faces.   If you'd like to be there, join Jerome at Goring and Streatley station at 09.06 (precisely) on Saturday morning.   Note the important reminder about dogs on this walk.

We, that's it for now.   I hope to see some of you at the AGM on Thursday, but until then, have a great week, and happy hiking!

All the details of this week's walks are, as usual, on the website and are reproduced below.
