London LDWA

Dear all

Just because it's February it doesn't mean that LDWA London isn't as active as ever!   So this week, like last, we've got no fewer than two walks coming up for you to enjoy - both midweek evening and weekend daytime.   Read on...

First in our agenda this week is a down-river hike on Wednesday evening, when Paul will be leading us on what promises to be an extremely enjoyable journey from St Pauls to Greenwich.   At this time of year, with the dark evenings, the lights of London are always spectacular, so this is certain to be a really excellent walk.   And what's more, there is even an "optional" Wetherspoons at the end (though I think "optional" and "Wetherspoons" may be a bit of a contradiction in terms...).   If you'd like to join this winter walk, meet Paul at St Paul's Tube (how appropriate!) at 18.00 on Wednesday evening.

And completing the week's journeys, on Saturday, Peter will be leading us on a 21 mile hike around a fine section of the London Loop long distance path (hence the walk's curious title, of course!).   He'll be heading out to the south of London, exploring a section of the Loop which incorporates some of the finest views from the hills back to London.   All in all, it sounds like a splendid walk though you'll see from the walk information (below), that you might want to bring a torch along with you, as it is likely to be getting dark towards the end of the walk.   Just make your way to Hayes station [NB the one in KENT, as there are several!] for 09.15 on Saturday morning.

Well - that sounds like a perfect week ahead, so you although you have five days of work to look forward to, we are offering you plenty of exciting punctuation along the way!

Have a great week

Adam

Event Details:

Event Details Updated
Update 14/1/17:
*** Trains: All should be running as timetabled. Only an hourly train out of Banstead but all being well we will make the 1738 to Victoria. There is an alternative station at Coulsdon South, approx 16 miles, for anyone who needs an earlier finish.
*** Sights: Include one of the great London views from the Addington Hills, Selsdon Wood, Happy Valley and Farthing Down, plus the back end of High Down Prison, which we will almost certainly pass in near-darkness.
*** Kit: please bring a torch, but you are advised not to lend to anyone wearing HMP overalls, just in case you never see it again.
*** Lunch: There is a pub about 12 miles in, where we may pay a short visit if we are making reasonable time, but it might be a good idea to have a sandwich as well as the usual water etc. just in case.
