Hello everyone!
I hope the return to work after the break wasn't too painful. The worst of it is though that this week, the boss will also be back from holidays, so the gentle reintroduction to the office that you enjoyed last week last week will be shattered with a plethora of exciting inititaives and worthy new year resolutions..
Anyway, this week we've got a great walk coming up on Saturday, to lift your spirits. And if you're lucky enough not to have to be in the office on Wednesday, we've got another walk as well. Not to mention Wednesday's "Winter Social" too, so plenty to look forward to.
The walk details will follow in a minute, but first a couple of Notices. OK well then, three..
THREE NOTICES!
First of all, three urgent reminders!
1) Photo Competition
Please don't forget to vote in the 2016 photo competition. You have until 23:59 on TUESDAY (10 Jan) to vote. The photos are reproduced at the end of this email and you can cast your vote by clicking on this link. The prizes will be awarded to the winners at the winter social on Wednesday (see below)
2) Winter Social
Don't forget it's our Winter Party on Wednesday (11 Jan) at the Knights Templar Wetherspoons from 18.30 onwards. If you're planning to come, please let us know by replying to this email (if you haven't already)
3) Possible London Countryway, multi-weekend, summer 2017
Dick is still trying to gauge the level of interest in the London Countryway, as it will affect how his 6 May walk is configured. You can click here for more details and if you are interested, please email Dick at countryway@ldwa.org.uk . It's worth bearing in mind that people don't have to pledge to do the whole circuit - individual segments are fine (though there will, of course, be a Celebration Thames Cruise for those who make the whole trip..)

Right - so on to the first of this week's excursions
First, on Wednesday, Ron will be taking a midweek daytime walk beside the seaside. He's hiking along the Essex Coast to take in the bracing sea air between Leigh on Sea and Shoeburyness. If you like the sound of something a bit different to help blow the cobwebs away, make your way to Leigh on Sea station for 10.25 on Wednesday (though you might find it cheapest to buy a return to Shoeburyness)
The authenticity of this definition can be tested out on Ron's walk on Wednesday (From "The Meaning of Liff")
And as if this wasn't enough we have more!
So secondly, on Saturday, Christopher is swapping the seaside for the riverside (well at least he is at the start of his walk) in an exploration of south east London on the first part of the London Loop long distance path. Lots of interesting things to see along the route are promised - including apparently a great number of trees. To be there, join Christopher at Erith station at 09.35 on Saturday morning.
Well that's all for now
So long, and thanks for all the fish!
Adam
