Hello everyone!
Well, love it or loathe it, we're living in a slightly different world now but the good thing is that the countryside is still as beautiful as ever, and the LDWA is a pillar of stability amidst the turmoil!
So what have we got in store this week? Actually, there are two great walks in the calendar so if you can tear yourselves away from the riveting political debate :-) then pack your bag and get out into the fresh air!
First up, on Thursday evening, Peter will be taking a walk in the woods - though unlike Mr Bryson, it's in Ruislip rather than the Appalachians. But this is actually in its own way a literary excursion, as it's a recce for the last in Peter's recent series of four London based walks that will feature in a forthcoming Cicerone guide he's writing. So if you'd like to join, make your way to West Ruislip station (National Rail from Marylebone or Central Line) for 18:15 on Thursday. But note if you take the tube, allow at least 45 mins as it takes takes a surprisingly long time to get there. As an added bonus, the walk aims to finish at a Wetherspoons in Northwood Hills.
And then on Saturday, Ian will be leading a linear hike through Lambeth. This promises to be an interesting exploration of almost the whole of the borough of Lambeth - from south to north. A fantastic opportunity to learn something about a part of London that LDWA doesn't often explore. If you'd like to go, make your way to Mitcham Eastfields railway stn (East exit) on Saturday morning. And in what seems like a bit of a lie-in for LDWA, you don't need to be there till 10:00 am. The walk will finish back in central London, at Blackfriars station.
On the beach - one of the more unusual features of Ruislip Woods
Well once again, we draw to a close, so I'll sign off and wish you a brave new week!
Adam
