London LDWA

Hello and welcome to the week!

Don't let the weather deter you from getting out and about!

It's the rain that makes this such a green and pleasant land, and right now the countryside is looking magnificent.   All you need to get the most out of it is a bit of goretex and a positive mental attitude (as James Bond would have said).

So this week we've got two wonderful walks in store for you.

First of all, on Tuesday evening (yes that's right it's TOMORROW), Peter is going to be taking us on a tour of some of South East London's finest woodlands.   Peter has told me this is an especially interesting walk, despite the weather rather looking as if it may be on a rinse cycle.   And Peter certainly knows how to organise a great outing - as those of you who were with him last Saturday will know, when he laid on a private display of the Red Arrows exclusively for LDWA London members.   So if you'd like to find out what's in store in the next episode of the Aylmer Adventures, get to Abbey Wood station for 18:15 on Tuesday.

And then second, on Saturday, Keith will be leading a walk from Newport.   Yes, Newport.   Not Pagnall, Gwent. Isle of Wight or even Rhode Island, but Essex.   So for those of you who like me didn't even know there was a Newport in what must surely be one of the most land-locked locations in Britain, this will be an irresistible draw.   If you'd like to check out this little-known destination, and also explore some of the Icknield Way, then make your way to Newport station for 09.27 on Saturday morning, remembering that you'll need to leave from Liverpool Street, not Paddington..

By the way, I was out walking in Hampshire last week and came across this most surprising character taking a stroll through the allotments near Petersfield.   I wondered if he was in training for his next job, post 23 June?

David Cameron scarecrow

Yes, terrifying

Well I think I better stop now, or else risk being sent to the Tower.

All the details of this week's walks are below.

Have a great week
