Hello everyone
Well now that we're into the meteorological majesty of March, we've actually got two walks coming up this week to make the most of the fresh air that this windy month affords. So get your boots out, gird your loins, and get ready to roam! (By the way, does anyone know what "girding" your loins actually means?)
Our first outing this week is on Wednesday, when Peter will be leading a wander down the Wandle, heading to the Thames. The Wandle river, apparently, gave its name to Wandwsorth and at just 9 miles long is one of theThames' shorter tributaries. To have your own mini-Amazonic Adventure, join Peter at Wimbledon station at 18.00 this Wednesday, 9 March
Following hot on Peter's heels, on Saturday, Dick is leading a circular walk around the periphery of Epping Forest which he has optimistically titled "There will be mud". Hopefully, we won't be encountering scenes like the one below, but it definitely sounds like a good opportunity to test out the waterproofing on your boots.
So if you fancy a bit of urban bog-trotting, join Dick at Chingford station at 09.30 on Saturday and don't forget your gaiters.
Winter 2013/14 mud in the Chilterns. Hopefully we will do better in Epping forest!
The details of this week's delightful duo of walks are, as ever, at the end of this note
By the way, I've now made it as far as Greenhead (on Hadrian's Wall) as I enjoy my Pennine sojourn, and hope to finish on Thursday or Friday, depending on how long the traverse of the Cheviot takes. You can read the details by clicking here. If I finish my walk in time, I will be heading to the LDWA National AGM in Buxton this weekend. Hopefully a good number of you will be there too.
That's all for now
Cheers
Adam
