London LDWA

Hello everyone!

I know the tension has been unbearable, but at last I'm delighted to be able to announce the winner of this year's London LDWA "unhelpful signs" competition.   Actually, the voting was remarkably evenly spread amongst the 40 entries, but there was one photo that just nudged ahead of the rest, which was number 24 "Many will have found this sign post useful when wondering where to go from Blackheath in Surrey", which was submitted by Kate Copeland.   So congratulations to Kate- you win the £25 prize!   I'll be in touch shortly to arrange to get it to you.

You can see the winning entry below:

Looking ahead to the week, next Sunday we've got a really interesting "estuarine exploration" lined up for you.   Steve's going to be leading a walk around the Roach and Crouch rivers, in deepest Essex.   This sounds like a fascinating day out, so if you'd like to join, be at Rochester station at 09.46 on Sunday.

Whilst I've got your attention, I also wanted to let you know that Surrey group are currently looking for volunteers to help at their forthcoming "Winter Tanners" challenge event on Sunday 10 January.   Surrey were extremely helpful to us in our "Founders'" event (they lent us the electronic tagging equipment) so if you'd like to reciprocate their help, please could you get in touch with the event organiser, Richard Ireson, 01344 777444 or richard@ireson.org.   You can find more details by clicking here.

I'm currently part way along the Dales Way and made it as far as Ribblehead today.  It's a brilliant walk - I'd highly recommend it if you've not had chance to walk it yet.  The photo below was taken an hour ago, as we descended from Cam Fell towards Ribblehead.   Sublime!

Anyway, that's all for now.   The details of Steve's walk on Sunday (which have been expanded slightly compared to "Strider") are attached below

Have a great week!

Adam
