London LDWA

Hello everyone!

Welcome to Monday.   The Autumn is now well and truly upon us.   The good thing about Mondays is that it's a nice long time until the end of next weekend.   Anyway. while you're thinking about that, LDWA London as ever has plenty of interesting things going on to lift your horizons beyond the working week.

The first thing I wanted to say was that at midnight tonight, Monday 19 October, (and no that isn't the precise time of another weird astronomical phenomenon), it's the closing deadline for the LDWA London "(un)helpful signs" competition.   There is a fabulous prize on offer and some really good entries already.   If you would like to enter, it's not too late - just send your photo(s) to LDWA London by replying to this email or by emailing london.walks@ldwa.org.uk .   You can view the current entries, and learn about the special voting process to select the winner, by clicking this link.

If you're short of inspiration, here are a couple I took whilst out and about last year.   You'll soon get the idea...

Hazardous sign near Lochan Fada

Yes - this signpost really is the wrong way round.   It's in a pretty remote spot on the Cape Wrath trail - absolutely the last place you'd want to take a wrong turn..

Saving the planet in Bucks

Modest ambitions for a Buckinghamshire coffee morning

Turning to the week's programme..

On Sunday, Gordon is leading an exploration of some more of London's parks.   This time, we're specialising in the far flung reaches of Hackney - and if you'd like to join this trip, take a carriage (get it?) to Stratford underground station and be there by 09.00.

By the way, if you're passionate about parks, you might be interested in the "Greater London National Park Initiative".  It's something that the LDWA London committee is discussing and if you had any views about whether it's the sort of thing you think we should be actively supporting, let us know by reply to this email or by emailing london.walks@ldwa.org.uk.   You can learn more by clicking here.

Well, I think that's quite enough for now.  We've all got work to do!

But until the weekend..

All the best

Adam
