London LDWA

;A cry for help!

Hello everyone!

This is a slightly out-of-the-normal-pattern-of-emails call for help!

We need our members to come forward to help maintain our position as one of the premier groups in the LDWA.   In particular, we’d be really grateful if you could help out on two things – our October “Founders’” challenge hike, and our Spring 2016 walks programme.

Read on – the details are below…

First of all, re the Founders'

Gordon has a good core of marshals for the Founders but would like a few more volunteers please.

Particularly welcome would be early birds who can either:

  • drive to Peaslake for 7.30 on Saturday 3 October,
  • or who can:
  • catch the 0645 from Waterloo (0652 at Clapham Junction) on the 3rd,

- to be a welcoming committee when the first walkers will be registering and need a cup of tea and an encouraging word!   (We can collect train joiners from Guildford at 0723 and give them a lift to Peaslake for the early shift).

Full details on application to Gordon at founderschallenge@ldwa.org.uk !

Second, re the Spring 2016 Walks programme

I know it seems ridiculously early, but because the “Strider” publication deadlines are so well in advance of publication date, the Walks Secretary (me!) has to start planning well in advance.   This year it’s extra complicated because I’m going to be in Japan and then Canada for 5 weeks over the critical planning period.

So I’m asking all our members - both regular leaders and others - if you’d like to make my life a bit easier by signing up early and volunteering to lead a walk next Spring.   I’ll also be contacting our team of excellent leaders separately but it would really help me if I could be swamped by a mass of early volunteers!

If you’d like to volunteer, or want to know a bit more about what it entails, please email me at adldwa@btinternet.com .   I’ve listed the dates when we need leaders below – please just let me know what dates you might be willing to help and I’ll try and slot you in.   You can also keep an eye on the on-line walks programme by clicking here.   I’ll fill in the dates as soon as someone books them, so you can see what’s still free.

I don't need full details at this stage - only the date.  I'd need full details in late August / early September

Thank you SO MUCH – both for the Founders and for the Walks programme  - for any help you can offer.   You would truly be a hero / heroine in the eyes of our members!

Adam

Midweek walks are listed here (NB they could be a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday walk – any of these would be fine).   It’s not essential that we fill all the midweek slots during the darker months, but they are proving to be increasingly popular at the moment.

PS starting this email with the word "Help!" of course is a cue for a song.   In case you were in need of a clue as to the band I had in mind, here is a picture of a group pf London LDWA hikers rehearsing the lyrics:

;Help - I really need somebody...

 (Thanks, to the Liverpool contingent!)
