London LDWA

Hello everyone

Well, at last it feels like summer!   So in tradiational British fashion, we better stop moaning about the non-stop cold and wet, and instead fret about the possibilities fo heatstroke and sunburn.

Anyway, in LDWA London we are made of sterner stuff and never miss an opportunity to venture out, whatever the weather.   So this week, we have two outings in store.

First of all, on TUESDAY this week (note TUESDAY not the usual Wednesday date),Peter is leading a north London exploration from Crews Hill to Cockfosters.   If,for you  like for so many of us, Cockfosters has always been a slightly mysterious blue blob at the end of the Piccadilly line, then now is your opportunity to find out what's behind the blob.   Be at Crews Hill station at 18.15 on TUESDAY if you'd like to join.

Then on Saturday, Jerome is taking a 20 mile blissful walk to Haslemere from Liss, through some of Hampshire and Surrey's finest countryside.   If you'd like to join the pilgrimage, and celebrate 4 July in style, be at Liss at 9.15 on Saturday.

While I have your attention, I thought I should also report back that Paul's recent LDWA "Weekend away" to the Lakes was a huge success.   Paul managed to complete his last "Wainwright" and was accompanied by a good group of LDWA London members.   The picture below shows the group on the top of the final peak.   You can read more about their adventure by clicking here.

There are also some good photos on the LDWA London group FaceBook page - do take a look.

Finally, spare a thought for one of my friends who's currently over-wintering at the Halley base in Antarctica.   I got an email from him updating me on the weather down there, which apparently reached minus 55 C this morning.   So much as we might moan about being too hot, the alternative could be far worse!

As ever, the details of all this week's walks are listed below:

Happy hiking!

Adam

PS: Gordon's still looking for "Founders" volunteers - email him at founderschallenge@ldwa.org.uk if you're interested
