London LDWA

Hello everyone

It's that time of the week again and today I can bring news of not just one, but two, LDWA London outings to tempt your boots out of the cupboard under the stairs.

First up is Marita's Crystal Palace exploration this Wednesday evening.   If, like me, you have never actiually been to Crystal Palace, despite it being, figuratively, just on our doorsteps, then this is your chance to find out whether there really is anythiing else other than a football team behind the name.   To join in, be at Crystal Palace station at 18:30 on Wednesdasy.   And in the remote event that anyone is interested, it does finish in a Wetherspoons...

And then second, on Sunday, Paul is leading a hike "In Darwin's Footsteps".  Paul's walks are always fascinating events and you can guarantee that you'll come back afterwards having learned something that you never knew before.   Plus, you might find out a bit more about his recent LDWA group outing "You'll never walk alone" to Liverpool.   To join in the walk, be at Hayes station (the one in Kent), at 09:12 on Sunday morning.

The details of both walks, as ever, are below.

Routes and maps

Quite a few of our members have asked if we can share maps and electronic routes of the walks we do.   This would enable those who can't make it on the group walk to follow in our footsteps at some other convenient point.

I don't have a problem with sharing maps and electronic routes (as GPX files) and can do this by adding them to the walk reports on the website (note though that I don't think OS maps greater than 1:250,000 scale can be used because of copyright restrictions).   There is an example of a map and a downloadable GPX file below, so you get the idea,

And to start the ball rolling, I have had a request for a copy of the route from Jerome's Petersfield circular last weekend, so if anyone happened to record a GPX track, please send it through and I'll post it on the website (I can also produce a JPEG map as well if needed).  And if anyone has any photos from last weekend, please do send them, too - I'm sure lots of people would be keen to take a look!

Anyway, that's enough from me for now.   So have a great week, and keep enjoying the weather in what promises to be one of the sunniest Aprils on record!

Adam
