Event Details Updated
An amendment due to rail engineering works, between Ramsgate and Dover. Some difficulty in arranging the walk for Saturday 18 May. From London the quickest train will leave St Pancras at 08:42, due Folkestone Central at 09:35; advance ticket with Railcard £9. From Deal, there is a bus replacement at 07:58, with an onward train from Dover, due Folkestone Central 08:56. The walk will aim to start at 9:40. The morning route with cliff top views stands as planned. The afternoon route will be adjusted to the speed of the Group to return to Dover Priory by 17:30 to ensure "advance" tickets for the 17:45 to St Pancras are valid. An advance ticket from Dover Priory back to St Pancras is also £9 with a Railcard. Some other routes from/to London are shown in the attachment. There is an option for Deal area residents to break away at St Margarets in the mid-afternoon to walk back to Deal along the coast, or stay with the Group and enjoy a rail replacement bus from Dover back to Deal. Please note rail engineering works are taking place between Ramsgate and Dover. There is a bus replacement service but connecting services arrive at Folkestone Central Station too late. As usual please make your own arrangements to arrive at Folkestone Central by 09:35, or contact Rod before Thursday 16 May either by email to rix38@btinternet.com or text to 079 0512 5820 if you are interested in a possible shared taxi from Tides Leisure Centre, Deal at 08:30 to Folkestone, about £10 each if 4 or more people travel. If returning to Deal, Rod suggests the very pleasant option of walking back from St Margarets after leaving Pines Garden.
