A Special Birthday

| The Rising Sun just outside the village of Hope in Derbyshire was the venue for a weekend celebration of Bernard's 60th birthday. The friends gathered had clubbed together to buy him a chauffeured drive in a vintage Armstrong Siddeley on the Friday afternoon complete with picnic basket. Just one packet of crisps remained from the goodies inside! Whilst Bernard and Jean were away his bedroom cum suite was decorated with balloons and cards and a selection of champagne and hors d'ouvres prepared. The 20 miler on Saturday was a touch on the strenuous side but a superb route up Cave Dale, over Mam Tor, taking in Kinder Edge and returning over Lose Hill, re-set the appetite for another grand dinner in the Rising Sun. Some departed after Sunday breakfast, others stayed on for a shorter, but no less enjoyable walk. Many thanks to Bernard and Viv for a memorable weekend. |
