EASY UP EASEDALE - 15.8.10

THREE LITTLE MAIDS ??!!

Leader Derek reports -

We were blessed with brilliant weather for our walk up Easedale - one of those picture post card days which occur so rarely in the Lakes. It was a shame that more people could not have enjoyed it as only four started out and three completed the walk. Rosemary could only do the walk as far as Silver Howe as she had other commitments.

Wendy quickly established herself as leader and set a cracking pace and we soon reached Silver Howe. After a short rest to admire the marvellous views, and saying goodbye to Rosemary it was onwards and upwards. There was hardly a breath of wind as we headed up the ridge towards Sergeant Man. Roger kept us amused and tantalised by stopping every now and then to remove successive articles of clothing. We couldn't wait to see what happened when we reached the top! Eventually, having looked down on Easedale Tarn from a great height we reached Sergeant Man, posed for pictures and admired the view.

Next stop was High Raise where we had our lunch, fought off flying ants and again enjoyed the superb 360 degree panoramic view. It was all downhill after that. We descended to Greenup edge, scuttled down Far Easedale, and endured the ants on Calf Crag, before a final short ascent up to Helm Crag. Here Wendy climbed the Howitzer, posed for photographs and gave mountaineering tips to admiring Sunday afternoon walkers. Then it was sharply down to the fleshpots of Grasmere and back to the car park. A cracking day and a splendid walk.
