TIME FOR TEA - MARK 10 - 14.9.14

 CREAM TEA WALK

Hard though it is to believe, this was the 10th annual Brampton Circuit, better known as the Cream Tea Walk, the reward awaiting 8 walkers who completed some 20 miles of a circular walk round Brampton.

Points along the walk included Lower Gelt Bridge, Hayton Town Head and Greenwell village, through Talkin and Farlam before stopping for coffee by Talkin Tarn. Having crossed the railway at Brampton Station, the route took us through Keep Wood and followed the stream to Lanercost Bridge and then Lanercost Abbey. Next we joined Hadrian’s Wall at Hayton Gate where we had lunch, continuing west along the Wall to Newtown. Leaving the Wall, we skirted Irthington and returned to Brampton along Old Church Lane.

A blistering pace was set, arriving by 3.30pm for Mary Hatcher’s excellent cakes and scones and no fewer than three varieties of delicious home made jam! Once again, grateful thanks to Paul and Mary for their generous hospitality.
