Chagford Challenge 2022


The 32nd Chagford Challenge will be held on 25th September 2022.

In this year's challenge there will be the same beautiful routes of last year, all with a full route description; they are on a mixture of footpaths, lanes and open moorland around Chagford.

Your Challenge is to complete your chosen distance: 50 Km with 1600 meters of ascent, 35 Km with 1100 meters of ascent or 27 Km with 900 meters of ascent, using paths, tracks, quite country lanes and open moorland, by 19:00.

The Checkpoints are set between 4.6 and 6.5 Km/h for the 50Km route walkers, between 3.3 and 6 Km/h for the 35Km route walkers and between 3.3 and 4 Km/h for the 27Km route walkers; 10Km/h for the runners.

Below is a summary of the event, but the full rules and notes can be downloaded by clicking Here. You MUST read them before you enter the event.

The event will start and finish at the Jubilee Hall Chagford SX 701875 located in the centre of Chagford near to the church.

Registration for 35 & 50 Km walkers will be from 7:10 to 07:50 than briefing and start at 08:00

while registration for 27 Km walkers and all runners will be from 08:30 to 08:50 than briefing and start at 09:00

Strictly no runners starting before 09.00, as the checkpoints will not be open for you.

No dogs allowed; this has been agreed with the landowners & DNPA, so please respect this.

There are toilets and simple washing facilities at the Hall.

There will be 4-3-2 checkpoints depending on your chosen distance, with simple food and cold drinks available.

A pasty & hot & cold drinks will be available at the finish, all included in the entry fee.  If you think you need some more food, then you may bring a little food & drink of your own.

Please bring a mug for drinks at the checkpoints and the Jubilee Hall, as there will be no cups available, we are trying to reduce the volume of plastic used.

Entrants must be able to read a map and follow compass bearings and

must have sufficient knowledge, experience, equipment, and navigational skills

to take part in this walk in all conditions and especially in the event of bad weather.

 

All routes are covered by the OS Explorer OL28 Dartmoor (1:25,000) or the OS Landranger 191 (1:50,000) Okehampton & North Dartmoor.

Because the routes have been agreed with the Dartmoor National Park Authority it is important that you keep to them at all times.

Certificates will be given on the day to all those who complete the walk.

Entry is Limited to 350 people but

no more than 99 entries will be accepted for each of the walking/running options for safety reasons. 

The entry list will close when either, the entry limit of 350 is reached or by 10th Sep 2022.

 

The entry fee is £12 for LDWA members or £18 for non-members. £2 of your entry fee will be donated to the Dartmoor National Park, to help with the upkeep & maintenance of the park.
