Dartmoor Kanter 2019

The Dartmoor Kanter is a challenge walk visiting one of the main Dartmoor reservoirs. The event is a self navigating challenge walk of 14m, 19m or 24m over open moorland, bridleways, lanes and footpaths with no route description provided. Entrants are given a list of grid references to be visited over the course of their chosen route distance. Questions relating to the grid reference locations are issued on the day and suggested routes are also available at the start. It is essential that entrants have the skills to read a map and navigate in adverse weather conditions. This events is self supporting with refreshments provided by the organisers at the start and a light meal at the finish only. There are no checkpoints anywhere en route and walkers need to carry enough food and drink for the day. A certificate is given to each entrant completing the walk.

Please Note: We have had to negotiate the route with Dartmoor National Park Authority. They have agreed to support the event on the proviso that entrants keep to the suggested route. As a result, we will be publishing the suggested route with the grid references 2-3 weeks before the event and at the same time a .gpx file of the suggested route - as walked - will also be available to download. So for those who are less confident with navigation, there will be a .gpx file to use aven though there will not be a route description.

This 2019 Kanter will be based around Meldon Reservoir on Northern Dartmoor. The Village Hall, Meldon, EX20 4LU, has been booked for the base on 14th July 2019. The routes have been set and we will be walking them out and setting the questions over the late winter and early spring period. The routes will go through Okehampton and Belstone, with the long route also visiting Lydford and will be based around the nothern fringes of Dartmoor.

There is an entry limit of 120 for this event. Entries on the day will be allowed only if the limit has not been reached beforehand. Please contact the organiser once pre-entries have closed (11th July).
