Two Dales Revisited

The Two Dales Revisited

On Saturday 17th November, 15 walkers met in Reeth for a 15 mile circular walk around Arkengarthdale and Swaledale. We set off at 9am along Arkle Beck passing through Langthwaite on the way to Whaw where we stopped for a short break.

From Whaw we crossed the Reeth to Brough road and started climbing onto Whaw moor up to and through Martin Vein disused workings. Then along the ridge and down to Turf moor reaching the road to Surrender Bridge where we stopped at the old Smelting Mill and had another break. After this break came the interesting section. We followed Barney Beck over the Cringley Bottom gully to Healaugh and then to the finish back at Reeth finishing a little before 3pm. This walk was scheduled for March but had to be cancelled due to bad weather.

The weather forecast for Saturday was cloudy with sunshine in the afternoon. We had cloudy but very little sunshine although fortunately it stayed dry. I would like to thank the group for the help that they gave me crossing Whaw moor over to Turf moor as this was a section that I had not walked in a long time. Also, thank you to all who came on the walk, and I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.
